The Hoosick Falls Community Band under the baton of Bill Gaillard will carry on a tradition begun by Pastor Robert Sprunger (d) in 1982. He was a clarinet player in the band and thought it would be nice to have a concert in his church.
The 2010 concert will be held at the First United Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evening, December 22, at 7:30 pm. All are cordially invited to attend this program which will feature traditional selections and four new ones that will cause a chuckle in many.
The band is comprised of residents from The Town of Hoosick and a couple from Arlington and Bennington, VT, as well as a long standing trombonist from Troy.
The 58 member group of musicians will perform “We Need A Little Christmas” from Mame, “Cantique De Noel,” featuring Jason Baker on trumpet, “The Little Drummer Boy,” “The Chipmunk Song,” “Do You Hear What I Hear,” “Winter Holiday” (a medley), “Christmas Pops Sing-a Long,” Christmas Sing-A-Long,” “Over The River,” “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “The Christmas Waltz,” “Feliz Navidad,” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” “God Bless America” and “A Crazy Mixed Up Christmas.”
The Hoosick Falls Community Band is a continuation of the Temple of Honor Band, the 32nd Company Band and the Van Surdam Band. The name change happened in 1972 when the Van Surdam family wished to have their name removed from the band. Band music has a long-standing history in Hoosick Falls.
Members of the brass section will play carols in the Village on Saturday, December 18, at 1 pm. This group will travel through the downtown area and travel to the senior residences also.
