Hoosick Falls – Joseph Robert (Jake/Bobby) Morin, 77, passed on to be with his beloved father and mother on Monday, December 13, 2010. Born on November 11, 1933, in Bennington, VT, he lived most of his life in Hoosick Falls, NY. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, Class of 1951. He was the son of the late Gerard Morin Sr. and Mary (Powers) Morin.
During high school he was active in sports and worked part time for Calhoun’s Dairy Farm. Jake served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. His home base was Brunswick Naval Air Station, Brunswick, ME. He was an airplane mechanic and traveled all over the world. Following the service, Jake worked for Niagara Mohawk cutting the power lines in the Hoosick Falls area. He then went to work for the General Electric Company in Waterford, NY, until his retirement.
Jake had a beautiful lawn and huge garden. His daily walks early in the morning kept him busy. He was a hunter and a fisherman. He played softball with his friends in Hoosick Falls and liked to play cards. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends around town and going to “camp” up north. Jake was a member of the Elks and the St. Stanislaw Society in Hoosick Falls.
He is survived by three sisters, Marie Ray of Bennington, VT, Anne and husband Robert Farrara of Eagle Bridge, NY, and Patricia and husband Michael Bornt of North Hoosick, NY, two brothers, Thomas and wife Peg Morin of Hoosick Falls and Raymond and wife Sue Morin of West Hoosick, NY, and a sister-in-law, Norma Morin, widow of Jerry Morin, of Troy, NY, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and his aunt, Virginia Ayers of Texas. Jake is pre-deceased by his parents and his brothers, Francis, who died in 1949, and Jerry Jr., who died in 2001.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls on Friday, December 17, at 11 am. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Research Center at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center through the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful nurses and doctors at the Cancer Center and at the Centers for Living & Rehabilitation for the outstanding care, kindness and compassion shown to the family during this difficult time.
