Major Highway Project Planned For Route 2 In Grafton

Grafton Highway Superintendent Herb Hasbrouck and Town Supervisor Allison Kirchner reported they had received a letter from the NYS Department of Transportation informing the Town that the State will begin ditching and repairing 45 small culverts on Route 2 starting in Brunswick in the spring of 2011. Work that requires diverting traffic to County Route 84 and Route 7 will be done during the school summer break. At other times there will be lane shifts with only one traffic lane open. It is believed the work will go from Brunswick to the former Grafton Elementary School.
Supervisor Kirchner read the Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer’s report in his absence. Thirty permits have been issued to date this year, and six unregistered car letters were recently sent out.
The Supervisor said starting in January the Assessor’s office will be open Mondays from 10 am until 2 pm and Wednesdays from 2 to 6 pm.
The Rescue Squad report stated that the Squad responded to 10 calls in November for a total of 49.5 hours and 160 miles.
Town Accepts Bell
On behalf of the Board, Supervisor Kirchner accepted the donation of the Meneely bell from the Grafton United Methodist Church. The Church permanently closed December 12. The Supervisor said she was grateful the bell would remain in the Town. Funds are currently being raised to build a structure to house the bell in the Town Park.
No Road Maintenance Until Spring
As in past years, the Town will not maintain the following roads again until spring. They are North Long Pond Road from Second Pond to the end, Johnson Road from Horton Road to a trailer located on the east side of Johnson Road and the center section of Clickner Road between Behuniak and Clickner Roads No one lives on those roads in winter.
Hearing On Dog Licensing
A Public Hearing on proposed Local Law #2 for 2010 will be held in January.
Compliments To Town
During the public comment portion of the meeting David Buckley thanked Councilman Fredricks for letting him know of the change in the scheduled Town Board meeting. He thanked all of the Board and the Town Clerk for their help and cooperation in the past and said he looked forward to working with them next year.
Doug LaRocque expressed his appreciation to the Board as well. He said he had attended the Town’s budget meeting and that the Board “went much further than I thought” in reducing the budget. He said the budget process was a lot of give and take and a great democratic process.
Organizational Meeting
Buckley asked when the Town’s Organizational meeting would be. The Supervisor responded it would be during the first week in January but a date had not been set.
Buckley asked if an Assessor would be appointed in January. Supervisor Kirchner said yes. Buckley asked if they had received many resumes for the job. She responded they had one, from Craig Surprise.
