submitted by the Town of New Lebanon Town Hall Building Committee
The Town of New Lebanon will hold a voter referendum on Saturday, December 11, from 11 am to 5 pm at the Church of The Immaculate Conception, US Rt. 20, New Lebanon. All registered voters of New Lebanon are eligible to vote.
The purpose of the referendum is to grant the Town authority to finance $435,000 for the construction and renovation of the Town Hall. According to estimates released by the Town Hall Building Committee, the impact on future tax rates will be negligible as the projected costs are already built into the cost for Town Hall maintenance and operation every year.
The Town has been without a unified meeting/office space for the past six years. Over the past three years an extensive study by the Building Committee has resulted in the proposal presented to the public.
At present, Board sessions and other public meetings, as well as Town Justice Court hearings, are held in rented space which may be unavailable in the near future.
The proposed Town Hall will provide a more secure setting for the Town Justice Court, unified office space for all Town business, as well as a meeting place for seniors and other groups.
The Town Hall Building Committee is urging all New Lebanon voters to cast a “Yes” ballot for the proposed funding in the special referendum on December 11.
