Stephentown Memorial Library News

December 10, 2010 By eastwickpress

Mitten Tree
The Stephentown Memorial Library is sponsoring a Mitten Tree.  We invite the community to bring new mittens, gloves, hats and scarves to decorate our tree at the Library. Just after the holidays, we will donate these items to a local agency for distribution to families in need. Children’s items are especially needed. Help us keep others warm this holiday season and decorate our Mitten Tree.
Museum Pass Program
Did you know that your library card is the key to free admission at local area museums?  Use your Stephentown Memorial Library card to check out a pass to the following local museums –  The Berkshire Museum, Hancock Shaker Village, Norman Rockwell Museum, MASS MoCA and The Sterling & Francine Clark Art Institute. You may call ahead to reserve a pass. One pass at a time is allowed per household, and passes are checked out for two days. Passes typically admit four people at member level, some additional fees may apply for certain exhibits. Explore the many museums in our region with this free library cardholder benefit. If you don’t have a library card, we will be happy to issue one at no charge with proof of residency.  Call or stop by the Library for details.
Events
• Words From the Hills – on Sunday, December 12, at 3 pm. Words from the Hills is a roundtable for sharing poetry, short stories, narratives, histories or even something from a blog. The words may be your own or by a writer whose words have been important to you. There will be no performances, but you may give a dramatic reading if you wish. There’s no need to memorize or recite, but that’s OK if you want to. Mostly we will just go around the table – perhaps even several times, each reading what they have brought. Listeners are certainly welcome. Enjoy some coffee or tea along with the words. This will be the final meeting of this group.
• Holiday Pie and Cookie Sale – SML’s Band of Bakers can solve your holiday baking problems! Let us bake your holiday pies and cookies! Pre-order only. Pies will be frozen, pumpkin pies ready to warm or apple pies ready to bake. Christmas pies and cookie trays will be available for pickup on Saturday, December 18, at the Stephentown Memorial Library.
Order forms are available online at www.stephentownlibrary.org or at the Library.
A limited number of pies and other baked goods will be available on sale day, but don’t take a chance – pre-order! Pay by check, cash, Visa, Mastercard or Discover. Many Thanks to Bartlett’s Orchards for again donating apples for our pies!
• Holiday Duct Tape Fun – If you’re looking for something fun and free to do, plan to join us on Friday, December 18, at 6:30 pm. Create wonderful holiday gifts for your friends and family.  We will provide an awesome array of duct tape colors from camouflage to the elusive plaid. We’ll provide a few patterns, but you’re only limited by what you can create in the time period! For 6-12 grade students.  Refreshments will be served.  Bring your friends!
