Beatrice M. Shiland

Hoosick Falls – Beatrice M. Shiland, 76, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. She had resided on Carey Avenue in Hoosick Falls, NY, and was the wife of the late Robert “Tink” Shiland, who died on December 2, 2010.
Born on November 2, 1934, in Hoosick Falls, Bea was the daughter of the late James and Alice (Colvin) Simmons. She graduated from Hoosick Falls High School in 1961. Bea was employed at Albany International Felt Company in Hoosick Falls and later in Albany, NY, until retiring. She enjoyed bowling, playing card games and bingo. Bea cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Tatro and husband Bill of Bennington, her sister, Marylou Simmons of Glens Falls, NY, her grandchildren, Meghan Wade and Joshua Tatro, and her great-grandchildren, Avery Wade and Kenlee Wade.
Relatives and friends were invited to attend funeral services on Wednesday, January 12, at 11 am from the First Baptist Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls with the Reverend Thomas Azar officiating. Burial followed the service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, on Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the First Baptist Church or the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
Following the committal services at Maple Grove Cemetery, the family invited everyone to the Polish Hall on Mechanic Street in Hoosick Falls, for a time of sharing and remembrance.
