Berlin Central School District Issues Statement On Lead Stabilization Report

January 20, 2011 By eastwickpress

submitted by Jeanne Casatelli, Communications Specialist. Questar III
On January 19, 2011, the Berlin Central School District issued the following statement on the Lead Stabilization Report regarding the Berlin Elementary School:
During the recent holiday break, Professional Service Industries, Inc. (PSI), the engineering and consulting firm hired by the District as an independent monitor, was on site at Berlin Elementary School to oversee the work conducted by the contractor as ordered by the District.
PSI noted: “The contractor work involving encapsulating the interior windows was complete; the exterior lead abatement was limited to the rescue windows and the entrance to provide a safe egress in the event of emergency. Due to weather conditions and the limited time line, full exterior stabilization was not possible; however, HUD guidelines were applied to areas included in the project. Further areas in the school are scheduled to be treated during the main project coming this summer.”
The District will continue to update the public on the progress of the lead remediation work.
