George W. Lavin

Hoosick Falls – George W. Lavin, 82, passed away on December 25, 2010, at the Centers for Living & Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT. He was the son of the late Paul and Catherine (Fennessey) Lavin.
George was born on May 8, 1928, in Hoosick Falls, NY, and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. He served in the United States Air Force, retiring, after twenty-five years of service, as a Staff Sergeant. George then worked on the Battle Acres Dairy Farm for many years. He enjoyed sports, watching soccer, football and baseball and playing softball with his nieces and nephews. He was a Yankee fan and liked to garden.
Survivors include his sisters, Ruth Riley of Groveside Road, Hoosick, NY, and Dolly Cottrell of Walloomsac, NY, and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. George is pre-deceased by a sister, Viola Carelli, and two brothers, William and Paul Lavin.
Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, on Thursday December 30, from 10 am until 12 pm. Funeral services were held at 12 pm from the funeral home. Burial followed the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
