Letter To The Editor – Give Credit Where Credit Is Due

January 14, 2011 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:
In the caption of the photograph at the top of page 4 of the January 7, 2011 issue, it is reported that the Town of Grafton crew removed the Meneely Bell from the Grafton United Methodist Church. The fact is that not a single member of the crew participated in the bell removal.
The bell was actually removed, on a bitter cold day, through the efforts of only three men – Kent Goodermote and Mike D’Agata of Berlin and Herb Anderson of Hoosick Falls. This was a several hour process which involved a lot of care and expertise in order to avoid damage to the bell or the steeple. After removal, they also delivered it to the Town garage. They donated their time, energy and equipment. The citizens of Grafton should be grateful to these men whose accomplishment will allow the bell to be retained as an historic part of Grafton.
We were there!
Ken and Pat Niebuhr

Editor’s response: Sorry! Thanks for setting this straight. The photographer who took the picture apparently gave us the wrong information, and we didn’t know any better. Again, to Kent, Mike and Herb, our apologies.
