Mary Curtis Harrington

January 14, 2011 By eastwickpress

Buskirk – Mary Curtis Harrington, affectionately known as “A,” 88, of West Hoosick Road, Buskirk, NY, died on Saturday, January 8, 2011, with her nieces and nephews at her bedside.
“A” was born on July 22, 1922, in Eagle Bridge, NY, at the home of her parents, Michael and Jennie McGowan Curtis. After her mother’s death at an early age, her aunt, Hannah Curtis, helped Michael Curtis in the raising of “A” and her younger sister, Luella.
She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and continued her education at Troy Business College.  She worked for 35 years at H.P. Hood & Sons in Eagle Bridge as a lab technician. She married Charles Harrington in April of 1962 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Buskirk. Charles died in 1995.  After her retirement, she enjoyed making many friends while working at the Bradley Laundromat.  She displayed her qualities of enthusiasm and selflessness while helping anyone who crossed her path.
“A” devoted her life to her sister’s children, and this loyalty has continued on with each succeeding generation.  Her outgoing personality created special relationships amongst friends and neighbors, and she will be greatly missed.
“A” is survived by her grateful nieces and nephews, Jane Walker and husband Rody, Joan Nolan, John Nolan III and wife Judy, Margaret Comar and Michael Nolan and wife Donna, her fortunate great-nieces and great-nephews, Randy, Rebecca, Katie, Johnny IV, Joseph, Dana, Hannah, Erin, Nolan, Courtney, Curtis, Shane and Ryan, her great-great nieces and great-great nephews, Lane, Schuylar, Augustus, Lucas, Madeline, Molly and namesake Mary.
Besides her husband, she was pre-deceased by her sister and best friend, Luella, and her brother-in-law, Jack Nolan.
Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home in Hoosick Falls, NY, on Tuesday, January 11, from 4 to 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cambridge, NY, at 1 pm.
“A” would open her arms to people and animals alike, and they would be friends for life. If you wish to carry on her compassion for animals, donations in her memory can be made to Heartsherd Animal Sanctuary in Buskirk through the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090.
