Sherman W. Herrington

Hoosick – Sherman W. Herrington, 81, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011, at the St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY. He had resided on Wilson Hill Road in Hoosick, NY, with his wife Marjorie (Pine) Herrington. Sherm loved his wife Marjorie, his wife of 60 years, as celebrated on September 9, 2010, with all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born on March 22, 1929, in Troy, NY, Sherm was the son of the late Sherman N. and Muriel (Bell) Herrington. He was a farmer all of his life, owning and operating the Sher-Mar farm. The Sher-Mar prefix was well known throughout the country. Many Sher-Mar cows and their descendants have sold for record breaking prices over the years.
He also had a great love for Holstein cattle. Crisscross Mingo, a two year old bull, was Honorable Mention and Reserve All American in 1968 and All American in 1967. He had a two year old heifer that won Honorable Mention for All American. There were also many Grand Champions honors at the Tri-County Holstein Show and other fairs.
Sherm worked hard, played hard, loved and lived life with passion for every endeavor he undertook. He was a member of the West Hoosick Baptist Church, where he also served as a Trustee. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Tri-County Holstein Club and Angus Association. He enjoyed logging, golfing, hunting, snowmobiling and maple sugaring.
Survivors, other than his wife Marjorie, include his children, Joanne Tilley and husband Dan of Hoosick, Susan Becker and husband Cliff of Hoosick Falls, NY, Jeffrey Herrington and wife Marcella of Jefferson, GA, James Herrington and wife Dana of Hyde Park, NY, and Tim Herrington and wife Pat of Connecticut. He is also survived by three sisters, Eileen Mundy of Ohio, Katherine Jensen of Troy and Muriel Chestnut of Texas, two brothers, Nathan Herrington of Florida and James Herrington of California, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Sherm is pre-deceased by two sisters, Sarah Bushkosky and Ellen Wimp.
Funeral services were Tuesday, January 25, at 6 pm from the West Hoosick Baptist Church, Buskirk West Hoosick Road, West Hoosick, NY. Burial will be in the spring at the West Hoosick Cemetery.
Relatives and friends called at the Church on Tuesday from 4 pm until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Hoosick Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.
