Geo P.’s Kitchen Ceiling Falls Down

Wednesday, March 28, 1855: John F and Patrick bought and fetched home Patrick calf at two dollars, it was two weeks old. This evening Geo P. returned home from the north, he had to bargain to sell trees. Today I did but a few chores for I slipped down and lamed my right side yesterday.
Thursday: My side continues lame. Geo P. came at night and helped me to do the chores for John F. walked to Berlin for Geo P. and carried one hundred and ten dollars to pay for a yoke of oxen that Geo P. had bought  of one Mr. Maxon and John F. paid the 110 dollars to him and took a receit. Geo P. bought the oxen last week when up engaging trees and paid five dollars to make up 115 dollars in all.
Saturday: Today Wm McMurray called and paid John F. the five dollars for the ten bushels small potatoes he had this winter for seed, they are what is called the mountain June.
Monday, April 2: I continue lame, my right side, and John F. is unwell. This forenoon the constable Elisha Bennett came and opened the tenant house of John F. and gave him possession of said house near James M. Glass’s. John Merrils when moved out of said house fastened the door. Today at ten o’clock Patrick Rafferty came and began to work at 14 dollars per month.
Tuesday: I am lame with my side. This afternoon I walked up to Geo P. to see the kitchen where the overhead plastering and lath burst and fell yesterday morning. this afternoon Patrick fetched home our smoked hams from the widow Eliza Wylie’s, ten of them, three had been fetched before. Today Geo P. paid Joshua B. Maxon four hundred dollars for 14 acres of land joining Thomas Horton near his swamp and paid Maxon nearly eight dollars for a hector piece of ¼ of an acre that was bought of Zachariah Chapman by Silvenas Carpenter a number of years past and said Maxon made acknowledgement before Squ Wm. Hand today at Hand’s house, that is to the title he gave Geo P. Holcomb.
Wednesday: Today John F. returned home from Pittsfield with the three cows and one calf. The others had not calves yet. He paid Hector one hundred dollars.
Thursday: I walked up to Geo P. and got my razor that he had borrowed. Wanton Chapman did some plastering for Geo P. today.
