Harry R. Perks, Sr.

Petersburgh – Harry Robert “Poppychop” Perks, Sr., 68, of Dayfoot Road, Petersburgh, NY, beloved husband of Doris Elizabeth Best Perks, died on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, on July 13, 1942, he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Mary Grace Mueller Perks. Harry was a graduate of John Jay High School in Brooklyn. He was a self-employed toy maker and the owner of Poppychop Toys in Petersburgh. He was a member of the Petersburgh Volunteer Fire Department. Harry was a United States Marine veteran, honorably discharged in 1963. In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by a sister, Dolores Perks.
He was the devoted husband of Doris Elizabeth Best Perks, whom he married on March 8, 1961, the father of Harry R. Perks, Jr. of Schenectady, NY, Debra D. Perks of Stephentown, NY, Elizabeth C. and husband Michael Noonan of Rosholt, SD, and Karen J. Day of Petersburgh, the brother of William B. (Jim Gains) Perks of Parsippany, NJ, the grandfather of Sarah (Christopher), Samantha (Craig), Miki, Kasey, Kodi, Mary, Kawika, Kanoa and Richard, the uncle of Dennis and wife Mary Naubauer of Clermont, FL, and the father-in-law of Linda Perks of Stephentown.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 6, at 2 pm at the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Road, Rensselaer, NY, 12144, or the Petersburgh Volunteer Fire Department in memory of Harry R. Perks, Sr.
