Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange had a nice surprise on February 9. We got our new movie screen. The men got right busy and hung it up. We also got a new Bingo game so we can see the letters better. We decided we would keep our next meeting on February 23, for a business meeting, if the weather is good.
The Lecturer’s program was for each officer to tell the meaning of their office. Carleton Philpott reported on the articles on the New York State Grange in The Record newspaper in 1911. The State Grange met in The Troy Music Hall in Troy. It was a four day convention They had more than 600 delegates in attendance and as many as 1,500 Grangers from all over New York State there participating. Governor John A. Dix met with them. It was interesting the issues they were working on.
The Lecturer read the last meeting report. She also had a story on a king who had four wives and how each one was different. The lesson of the story was – he should have taken better care of his first one.
The Lecturer had a game on Old Moon Songs, where the Grangers had to finish the title. She read several jokes and some interesting facts on the oldest Bed and Breakfast Inn in Vermont. It was the Walloomsac Inn in Bennington, built in 1764, and it had four Presidents stay there at different times. The Lecturer had a closing thought – What you are is God’s gift to you; What you make of yourself is your gift to God – author Vonnie Woods.
Refreshments were apple crisp à la mode by the Philpotts. The next meeting is February 23, weather permitting.
