Patrick J. Galvin

Hoosick Falls – Patrick J. “Bloop” Galvin, 68, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, VT. He had formerly resided on Center Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, with his wife of thirty-seven years, Anna (Chaplin) Galvin.Born on June 14, 1942, in Hoosick Falls, Pat was the son of the late John and Mary (Sharkey) Galvin. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls and earned his nursing degree through the BOCES Program. Pat was an M.P. in the United States Army, serving from 1960 to 1963. Pat worked at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington as an L.P.N. for twenty-six years. Pat also worked at the Hoosick Falls Post Office for several years. He was part of the Hoot & Holler gang at St. Mary’s Academy for a number of years. He was a member of the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad and a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls. Pat enjoyed Irish music and the time spent with his granddaughter, Aidan Lynn Dence, the love of his life, whom he always sang a tune for.
Survivors, other than his wife Anna, include his daughter, Tara Galvin and granddaughter Aidan Lynn Dence both of Hoosick Falls, his brother, John “Jack” Galvin of Hoosick Falls, his sister, Mary Marriner of Brunswick, NY, and several nieces, nephews and sisters and brothers in law. Pat is pre-deceased by a daughter, Terri Galvin, and two brothers, Michael and Lawrence Galvin.
Funeral services were Wednesday, February 9, at 9:30 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Academy through the funeral home. Burial will at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls at a later date.
