Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Meetings 1939-1941

Transcribed from the minutes of meetings of the first three years of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department are the minutes of the SVFD for meeting #2 & #3.
Stephentown, September 12, 1939 – Meeting Two
On roll call the following members were absent –  Lawrence Manns, Wm. Hall, Harold Sutherland, Raymond Deamer, Leland Snow, Ralph Barrett, Howard Sweener, Francis Overlock.
The by-laws was [were] read and adopted by the members.  Starting with the regular meeting in October all members not attending two meetings out of three will be expelled.  Secretary to send notice of the next meeting to all members.
Chief Brown reported $17.20 received from the donkey ball game.  Secretary to order badges for 22 members.  Meeting adjourned, L. Hewitt Secretary.
Stephentown, October 10, 1939 – Meeting Three
The third regular meeting of the Stephentown Vol. Fire Co. was held in Town Hall at 8 pm.  Under new business for the card party, Oct. 11, it was decided to have hot dogs, cake and coffee and sweet cider.  There will be a door prize and prizes for cards.  Gus Johnson, Make Ward and Francis Overlock to procure prizes.  Upon roll call Frederick Brown, Lawrence Manns, Raymond Carpenter, Leland Snow, Ralph Barrett, Raymond Deamer were absent.  A collection from members was taken up for $4.75 for flowers for Mrs. Brown.
The members voted to buy one gas mask and the commissioners to buy one.  Refreshment committee appointed for November meeting – John Atwater, Gus Johnson.  Meeting adjourned, L. Lewitt, Secy.
