Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Meetings 1939-1942

Transcribed from the minutes of meetings of the first three years of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department are the minutes of the SVFD for meeting #5.
Stephentown, Dec 12, 1939
The 5th regular meeting of the SF Dept was held on the above date.  The following fires occurred – Dec 1 at John Hoffmans, hay fire; Dec 8, chimney fire Frank Coles; Dec 12 house fire at Gregorys, West Stephentown which were all extinguished.  Motion made by Francis Overlock, seconded by Douglas Feathers – members voted to drop Leland Snow account not attending meetings per by-laws.
John Atwater nominated second by F. Overlock- Arthur Staples
Douglas Feathers nominated seconded by John Atwater – George Overlock
F. Overlock nominated seconded by Harold Sutherland – Richard Tyde
Wm. Hall nominated, seconded by Bert Bullion – Harvey Pease
John Atwater nominated, seconded by F. Overlock – Walter Sykes
As new members of the fire department.
Under new business election of officers, the secretary was authorized to cast one ballot for President- Gus Johnson, Chief- Douglas Feathers, asst chief- Francis Overlock, Capt. – Bert Bullion, secy- L. Hewitt, Tres- Mike Ward
Motion was made by F. Overlock that members missing fires be fined 25cents with out an excuse, second by Douglas Feathers and was carried.
Harold Sutherland- Don Hall -refreshments Jan., Silas Hicks-L. Hewitt refreshments – Feb, Mike Ward – Art Staples refreshments – Mar, Douglas Feathers – F. Overlock refreshments – Apr, Wm Hall – Joe Ward refreshments – May, Ulyssis Sweener – Bert Bullion refreshments – June, Al Silvernail – Frederick Brown refreshments – July Walter Sykes was appointed a driver. Meeting adjourned L. Hewitt, secy- minutes read and adopted.
