• Batik Inspired Accent Pillow – On Monday, February 21, at 12:30 pm, Casey Southard will show you how to make your own batik inspired accent pillow. The beauty of batik has inspired fabric artists throughout the ages. Learn a little about Batik’s rich history in Africa and Asia. By using an alternative medium, we will eliminate the hazards and time investment of the traditional hot-wax method without losing the special batik appearance. Each participant will receive a plain muslin pillow. Guidance and materials will be provided to insure that the pillow you take home will be anything but plain. You create the simple design for your own unique batik. This is a free program, all materials will be provided. Enrollment is limited so call to reserve your spot.
• Go Batty with Jerry Schneider – Join us on Wednesday, February 23, at 1 pm for a wonderful program about bats. Jerry Schneider, a Vermont native, has performed nature programs for the past ten years throughout the Northeast, the Midwest and along the Atlantic Seaboard. Since 2003, he has done presentations about bats in schools and libraries, using wonderful slide photographs by Merlin D. Tuttle and Bat Conservation International. This program introduces audiences to local and tropical bats. Via slides and taped bat calls, the audience moves beyond old stereotypes to understand the vital role of bats, which help control pesky insects, pollinate night blooming flowers and are valuable dispersers of seeds. Audiences learn about bats in our attics, building bat houses, vampire bats, migration and hibernation. Registration is limited, so please sign up in advance.
