• Youth Book Discussion Group – We are starting a new book discussion group for students in grades 6 thru 9. The group will meet monthly on Saturdays at 1 pm, beginning on February 26. We want your input on which books you’d like to read and discuss. Stop by the Library anytime and add your suggested titles to the box at the front desk. Our first book will be I so don’t do mysteries by Barrie Summy. Sherry (short for Sherlock) wants more mall time, less homework and a certain cute boy. Instead, she’s recruited by her mother’s ghost to prevent a rhino heist at San Diego’s Wild Animal Park. Copies of the book are available now at the Library.
• Tween Game Time – Come join us for an afternoon of gaming for 10-14 year-olds featuring Guitar Hero with two guitars and other Wii games, board games, pizza and refreshments. Bring your friends and show off your skills on Saturday, February 26, at 2 pm at the Library. This event is free, but we ask that you register in advance.
• Join the New Friends of SML group – The new Friends of the Stephentown Memorial Library group will gather for an organizational meeting on Sunday, February 27, at 3 pm in the Community Room. If you are interested in helping your Library, come and join the discussion. Many people with many skills and talents are needed, so whether you are interested in volunteering to assist the Staff, helping to plan fund raising events, staffing the book sale in July, making signs, baking or helping in ways yet to be dreamed up, come join in!
• Zumba Classes at SML – Weekly on Wednesdays at 7 pm – Zumba is an exhilarating Latin-inspired dance fitness class designed to benefit anyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Zumba Instructor Kim Conley is also a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, Pilates Instructor and Personal Trainer who works with people of every age and ability all over the Berkshires. She will lead us in a one hour weekly class. Each class costs $5 per participant. Class will be held in the main room of SML, with possible overflow into the Community Room. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. There is additional parking at the school across the road. Zumba is a blast – come join the party!
• Small Business Seminar – The Community Loan Fund of the Capital Region, financing community development throughout the region since 1985 with capital provided by socially concerned donors and investors, presents Taking Care of Business on Tuesday, March 8, from 7 to 8:30 pm at SML. Do you want to start a business but don’t know where to begin? Do you dream of expanding your business and need capital? Do you wonder how to get more customers to walk through your door? Do you want to know more about how to market your business? Do you want to learn more about interest bearing investments that support local community development? If you answered yes, then this program is for you. Join us for a free information session for small business owners, anyone who wants to start a business and anyone who works with small business owners.
