Hazel M. Jones

Petersburgh – Hazel M. Brimmer Jones, 83, formerly of Petersburgh, NY, died on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center in Hoosick Falls, NY. She had lived for a short time at Wood Park in Hoosick Falls.
Born May 5, 1927, in Berlin, NY, she was the daughter of the late Darius and Ethel Jones Brimmer. She was the loving wife of the late Wayne C. Jones, whom she married on September 10, 1949, in the Petersburgh Baptist Church. He passed away on March 20, 2003.
Hazel attended Hoosick Falls High School. She worked at Cornish Wire in Williamstown, MA, and Union Carbide in Bennington, VT. She was the Tax Collector for the Town of Petersburgh for many years until retirement. She and Wayne wintered in North Port, FL. Hazel was a Democratic Committee person and very active in town politics for years. She enjoyed dancing and card playing. Hazel was a member of the Society of St. Stanislaw in Hoosick Falls, the VFW #1332 Ladies Auxiliary and Women of Moose #1018 both in Bennington, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Pownal, VT, the Elks #2378 of Englewood, FL, and the Hoosick Falls Senior Citizens.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Jones of Hoosick Falls and Randy Jones of Grafton, NY, a brother and his wife, George and Kate Brimmer of Grafton, grandchildren, David and Haylee Jones, and a great-grandson, Jordan Jones. She is pre-deceased by a daughter-in-law, Wendy Jo Jones (Randy’s wife) in 2001.
Funeral services were on Wednesday, March 16, at 1 pm in the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, where Rev. J. Mark Norlund, pastor of the Petersburgh Baptist Church, officiated. Interment followed in the Meadowlawn Cemetery.
Relatives and friends were invited to the funeral home for visitation on Wednesday from 11 am to 1 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Petersburgh Baptist Church, P.O. Box 37, Petersburgh, NY, 12138.
