John F. Mysteriously Unwell

Monday, May 7, 1855: Today John f. and Patrick got timber from Geo P. hill and Patrick bruised his leg with a skid and John carried him home at night. Today Edward Jolls scored timber and Michael Manning scored half a day and Lias Jones hewed timber.
Tuesday: Towards night a storm, snow hail and rain.
Wednesday: This morning Patrick drove a cow home from the Rodgers farm that had a young calf. He was some lame but had dig in ditch near Wm Kittle yesterday and today is able to plow sward in the south meadow. John F. unwell he bargained with John Kendal to sell him 13 cords body wood at 3.25 cts per cord and nine cords top wood at 2.25 cts per and delivered in the heap way near Geo P. house. This evening Geo P. returned from the north to Vermont selling fruit trees.
Thursday: This afternoon John F. mended fence in the swamp where Alonzo Rodgers smashed the fence down on the line felling wood across the fence.
Saturday: I walked up to Philander Hatch’s to see if we could get a hand to score timber but could not and I walked up to John Russel’s but could not get a hand to score timber, and today Edward Jolls and Michael Manning scored for Lias Jones to hew on the hill, and tonight John F. paid Edward Jolls up at one dollar and 25 cts per day, six and a half days, 8 dol, and today Geo P. and wife went to Lenox and stayed to her father’s.
Friday: Today John F. unwell, did not work.
Saturday: I am quite lame and unwell.
Monday: Today Geo P. altered five pigs for us.
Thursday: This morning John F drew three loads shingle block from Geo P. he is unwell, did but little today, we had no hired help.
Wednesday: I worked on the highway and John worked  with ox team and plow and hired man Patrick and he went with his horse and wagon, and today James M. Glass the overseer of highway credited John F. and myself six days works on the highway for all we did this day and evening.
Thursday: I worked on the highway and John worked this forenoon on the highway and in the afternoon he was sick but Patrick worked on the highway with ox team and cart drawing dirt which makes four and a half days works on the highway today
Sunday: My two sons rode up to the north part of town  to look at the widow Freelove Wylie’s pasture.
Monday: this morning early John F. took his horse and wagon and fetched Mr. Lindsay from West Hill in Lebanon to work for us building a chimney. I tended to carrying mortar and brick and Patrick mixed mortar and tended mason and John F. unwell.
Tuesday: I and Patrick tended mason and Mr Lindsay laid up brick and today John F. went to Lanesborough with horse and wagon and paid thirty three cts per bushel for six bushel lime and he came home sick.
