Petersburgh – Mabel Alice Klein passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 10, 2011, in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Born in the Bronx, NY, on November 18, 1919, she was the daughter of Charles Frederick and Mabel Nellie (Goodman) Kiedaisch, Sr. She graduated from Evander Childs High School in 1937. She was the loving wife of Louis J. Klein, Jr. for 45 years until his passing in 1988. They moved to Petersburgh in 1948 where she resided until moving to Florida in 2005 with her daughter and family. In the early 1950s she and her husband ran the Lone Oak Restaurant on the Taconic
Trail in Petersburgh. Mrs. Klein was manager of the Spruces Mobil Home Park in Williamstown, MA, from 1955 to 2003 when she retired. She was a member of the Petersburgh United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. She was also a former member of the Petersburgh Rescue Ambulance Squad as well as the Civic Council and the Petersburgh Senior Citizens. She also served on the Board of Assessment Review. She enjoyed traveling, having seen many parts of the world, as well as bowling. She was an avid reader.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Karl L. and wife Sharon Klein of Berlin, NY, Kurt L. Klein of Petersburgh and Karen K. and husband Dale Crandall of Lehigh Acres, FL, six grandchildren, Erik L. Klein, Lisa and husband Eric Peckham, Laura and husband Frederick Galt, Katharine L. Klein, Martha A. Klein, DVM, and Lucas A. Klein, as well as six great-grandchildren, Emilee M. Peckham, Eric M. Mathis, Caroline H. Galt, Jakob O. Peckham, Julia B. Galt and Kadan F. Klein. She is also survived by her brother, Charles F. Kiedaisch, Jr. of Hopewell Junction, NY, and dear friends, Siegfried and Marianne Krahforst of Petersburgh and Anita Galbo of North Adams, MA. In addition to her husband and parents, she is pre-deceased by her sister, Verna E. Kiedaisch.
She was a loving, caring, generous mother and will be greatly missed by her family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Petersburgh Methodist Church or the Petersburgh Rescue Ambulance Squad would be appreciated. Arrangements are being made for a memorial service in Petersburgh in late April. The Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home of Petersburgh is in charge of local arrangements.
