Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Meetings 1939-1942

Transcribed from the minutes of meetings of the first three years of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department are the minutes of the SVFD for meeting #6, 7 and 8.
Stephentown Jan 9, 1940
Stephentown Fire Dept. met in town hall on the above date.  Dec 29 at Ulyssis Sweener a barn fire which was a total loss, the rest of the buildings were saved.  Motion was made by John Atwater, seconded by Don Hall a telephone be installed in the Chief’s home; carried; rent to be paid by the fire co.  Chief reported $13.95 received from the sale of magazines which was turned over to the treasurer.  For good of the dept it was suggested a trench be made underneath the truck for the hose in case of fire.  The by-laws were read by new members.
Motion was made by John Atwater, seconded by Albert Silvernail that the officers draw up a new set of bylaws to be presented to the fire commissioners. Chief notified all members after a fire return to the fire house to take care of equipment.  Meeting closed.  L. Hewitt- Minutes accepted.
Stephentown Feb 13, 1940
Stephentown VFDept met in Town Hall on above date.  An invitation was received from the Mohawk Vol. Fire Asso. to attend a meeting to be held in Troy, Thursday, Feb 14th, also the dept voted to join up at $3 a year.
Chief Feathers congratulated the members in their attendance at fires. The President appointed Chief Feathers as Chairman of the entertainment committee, he to pick his helpers.  L. Hewitt, Secy.
Stephentown Mar 12, 1940
The 8th regular meeting of the Stephentown Vol. Fire dept met in town hall on Mar 12 at 8 pm.  Letter of appreciation received from Lebanon Valley Fire Co. for assisting at fire at Sullivans, New Lebanon, Feb 18.  The matter of a bingo party for members and wives to be held at later date – L. Hewitt, Chairman.
Cash for evening $10 donation from Harold Goodrich, $1.04 from refreshments.  Secretary to write a letter of appreciation to Mr. Goodrich.  Meeting adjourned.  L. Hewitt, Secy.
