Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Meetings 1939-1942

Transcribed from the minutes of meetings of the first three years of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department are the minutes of the SVFD for meeting #9, 10, 11 and 12.
Stephentown, Apr 9, 1940
The 9th regular meeting of the Stephentown Vol. Fire Co. held at Town Hall on above date.
Under entertainment for us to raise money for the department.  Motion was made by Douglas Feathers, seconded by John Atwater that we have a card party May 1st.  Committee- Douglas Feathers and L. Hewitt.  Gus Johnson reported he was having membership blanks printed.  Motion made & seconded that we buy 3 dozen cups.   $60.45 balance in treasury.  Meeting adjourned – L. Hewitt
Stephentown, May 14, 1940
The 10th meeting of Stephentown Vol. Fire Co. held in town hall on above date.  The engine was called out for grass fires, one in the village and 4 at North Stephentown this month.   Amount received from card party $37.06 after all bills paid.
Chief Feathers made his report in regard to fires during the month, also the truck has to be cleaned and it was decided to meet after work May 22nd.  Application of Everett Shepard received and placed on file, same to be voted on when an opening occurs.  Under new business the members would like to have a softball team, Geo. Overlock-manager, Si Hicks-Capt.  Motion made and seconded that chief find out what caps will cost and to report next meeting.   Balance in treasury $88.30  (sic- no indication of meeting adjournment)
Stephentown, June 11, 1940
The 11th regular meeting held in town hall on above date.   The members voted to wait until next year to donate to the fire association at Hudson.  Application received from Rudoplh w. Strobel placed on file.
Chief Feathers reported he could purchase caps for $2.00 and $2.10.  For refreshments for August Dick Tyde – Raymond Carpenter, Sept. , Howard Sweener – Geo. Overlock.
The fire commissioners will buy the shirts and pants for the members of the department.  Members buy the caps and gold braid and ties.  Receipts- $2.50, Total in treas.  $90.80

Stephentown, July 9, 1940
The 12th regular meeting held in town hall on above date.  Chief made report of the parade at Berlin and Poestenkill.   The motion made, seconded and carried that any member missing 2 meetings in succession that he be dropped without he can give a good excuse.  John Atwater & Ulisses Sweener having missed 3 meetings, secy to see them and find out why they did not give excuse or attend.
Motion made, and seconded, and carried that a committee be appointed to work on a program for a day to make money for the company.  Chief Feathers and Francis Overlock committees.
Bills for caps was $40.81, left in tres. $50.50.   L. Hewitt (sic Secretary)
