“The Future of Your Woods and Wildlife: More Resources and Tools For Landowners” is the title of a workshop to be held in Sand Lake on Saturday, March 19. Private lands on the Plateau contribute to the overall ecological health of the larger landscape through stewardship that supports forest regeneration, wildlife populations and movement and high-quality forests and wetlands.
The Woods and Wildlife workshop will offer landowners information and tools needed to understand and address some of the issues facing woodland owners today. Topics will include forest-wildlife management and ecology, how to sell sawtimber, ownership transfer of forest lands, uncommon and at-risk wildlife of the plateau, how to get started on forest stewardship plans and conservation programs for forest owners.
The event is co-hosted by the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance and theCornell Cooperative Extension of Greene and Rensselaer Counties and is sponsored by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s Hudson River Estuary Program and the Cornell Biodiversity Program Work Team.
The workshop will be held at the Zion’s United Christ Church of Taborton, 741 Taborton Road, from 8:30 am to 12:15 pm, followed by lunch and an optional woods walk that will end at 2 pm. The workshop fee is $15. See http://www.dnr.cornell.edu/ext/pwt/bio/ for an agenda, registration form and to register online.
