April Events At The Stephentown Library

• April Showers Bring Bright Stories with Bill Cliff and Jeannine Laverty – Tuesday, April 5, from 1 to 2 pm, for adults and seniors. As part of the Riverway Storytelling Festival storytellers Bill Cliff and Jeannine Laverty will be telling tales to delight and entertain. Join with us to laugh together, share a poignant moment or two and surely recognize ourselves in the stories told by our masterful tellers. The performance is free; no registration is required, and light refreshments will be served.
• Rediscover Longfellow – Thursday, April 7, at 7 pm. Our elders were reared on great American literature, and perhaps the greatest American poet of all is Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Designed for all ages this presentation by local resident Bruce Southard wraps stories of Longfellow’s life, art and legacy around fourteen of his famous poems, including “Evangeline,” “Paul Revere’s Ride” and “Hiawatha.” The selection of poems brings the audience back through the American history, values and tradition so uniquely captured in Longfellow’s verse. Works are not read from a book but recited in the rich oral tradition that became a standard rite of passage for American schoolchildren up through the mid-twentieth century. These same schoolchildren (albeit with a touch or more of gray) and their families, can sit back, remember and rediscover the rhythm and power of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. And for those new to his work, discover the inspiration in his words that helped shape our nation. The presentation is approximately an hour and a half and includes points of local history in Longfellow’s life and poetry.
