Arlene T. Chittenden

Stephentown – Arlene T. Yerke “Tootles” Chittenden, 72, of Route 43, Stephentown, NY, died at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, March 27, 2011, after a long illness, under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County .
Born September 1, 1938, she was the daughter of the late William G. and Alice M. Osgood Yerkee. She was the loving wife of Howard J. Chittenden, Sr. whom she married in Grafton on February 2, 1958. A lifelong resident of this area, Tootles graduated from Berlin Central High School in 1957. She worked briefly in her earlier years. She was a devoted homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be sorely missed. Arlene enjoyed puzzles of all kinds, painting items her husband built and keeping in touch with family and friends via the computer.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Howard, her children, William R. Chittenden of Ghent, NY, Sandra L. and husband Thomas Owens of Berlin, NY, Tina L. and husband Jim Phillips of Stephentown, Hugh B. and wife Dee Chittenden of West Ghent, NY, her sisters, Shirley Godette of Zephyr Hills, FL, and Patricia Myers of Hoosick Falls, NY, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by a son, Howard J. “Dooley” Chittenden, Jr.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday evening, March 30, at 7 o’clock in the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, where Rev. Trygve Tomlinson officiated. Interment will take place on Thursday at 11 am in the Berlin Community Cemetery. Relatives and friends were invited to the funeral home for visitation on Wednesday from 4 to 6:45 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Drive, Rensselaer, NY, 12144, or to the Stephentown Rescue Squad.
