Hoosick – Barbara J. Frisbie Baker, 85, a resident of the Danforth Home in Hoosick Falls, NY, passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2011, at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA. She was born on Valentine’s Day 1926, the only child of Jessie Pratt Frisbie and Gertrude Sweet Frisbie, and grew up at the family home in Johnsonville, NY. She graduated from the Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls, then from Russell Sage College, Troy, NY, in 1947 with a degree in Home Economics. She taught high school home economics for several years
before marrying Walter C. Baker in 1953 and starting a family on the Baker family farm on Bovie Hill in Hoosick, NY. Barbara was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and was active with many women’s church groups. Barbara has more recently been a member of the Hoosick Baptist Church.
A member of the Hoosick Grange for 56 years, Barbara also enjoyed music, neighborhood Bible studies and especially spending time with her family. She loved to write cards and letters to her friends and enjoyed watching the events and activities of her grandchildren. In recent years she had kept the staff of the Danforth Home on their toes and enjoyed many of the activities.
Barbara is pre-deceased by her husband, Walter C. Baker. She leaves her sons, Kendal Frisbie Baker and his wife Florina Capistrano-Baker of Hoosick Falls, Sherman Walter Baker and his wife Sandra Castro-Baker of Hoosick Falls, Larry Cottrell Baker and his wife Patty Kaminski Baker of Eagle Bridge, NY, and Elon Lee Baker of Hoosick Falls, her daughter, Hattie Ann Baker of Delmar, NY, and her grandchildren, Jessica S. Baker of Clifton Park, NY, Matthew J. Baker and Lucas H. Baker of Hoosick Falls, Phoebe Laura Baker of Albany, NY, and Julia Thankful Baker of Hoosick Falls.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 27, at 10 am at the Hoosick Baptist Church. Calling hours were on Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm at the Mahar Funeral Parlor, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls. Interment followed at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls following the service. A reception was held at the Hoosick Baptist Church. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Hoosick Baptist Church.
