Tom Hohman and Chuck Friday will be guest speakers at the Poestenkill Historical Society’s April 26 program on Harnessing the Barberville Falls. Friday has studied the Barberville Falls and will be presenting a program on the history of the falls. Hohman, who lives on Plank Road, has harnessed the power made from the falls with water turbines and uses the power it generates in both his home and sawmill.
The Hohman Water Turbine project is an example of how this form of power transmission operates two distinct applications along the Poestenkill Creek. By using a natural head of water provided by the Barberville Falls, Hohman has designed, installed and is operating a 12KW water turbine/generator system. Hohman’s system uses the natural flow of the Creek to direct water power to a turbine.then reintroduces the water back into the Creek in an eco-friendly manner.
This program will be held in the Poestenkill Town Hall (RT351) at 7 pm. All our programs are open to the public and are free.
Refreshments will provided. For more information, contact Pat at 366-3986 or go to www.townofpoestenkillny.org/town historian for our upcoming events.
