If you heard great music in the air on March 23 at the Hoosick Grange Hall, it was the Hoosick Falls Central School Jazz Band, and they were terrific. There was a good-sized crowd, and the bad weather held off, and that was good. The leader of the Jazz Band is Mr. Bill Brown. He told us that when he was in the service over in Germany, that the big band sound and jazz was the thing. You can see that he loves it. He introduced the players that are in the band from a 6-grader through 12-graders. They played many songs, and it would make you want to dance. They played “Muppet Show,” “Star Wars,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “String of Pearls,” “Colors of the Wind,” “Hang On Sloopy,” “Cain’t Help Falling in Love,” “Louie, Louie” (Josh H solo), “I Will Follow Him” and “Rock Around the Clock.” The players really loved that one.
Marion Hynick had introduced the band, and she thanked them for coming. The Grange had refreshments for everyone. Our next meeting is on April 13, and the program chairpersons are Louise Ciuk and Mary Remancus. Norma Brenenstuhl is in charge of refreshments.
The Lecturer also thanked the band and announced that during Grange Week on April 27, at 8 pm, that we are having a speaker, Mr. Scott Christianson. He has written a book on Charles Nalle, a slave and the underground railroad. The book is titled Freeing Charles. All who are interested can attend, no charge. We hope to see you then.
