Bebop for Babies? “Take Five” for Toddlers? On Saturday, April 9 at 12:30 pm The Mother Goose Jazz Band brings jazz to children and families at The Chocolate Festival in The Washington Avenue Armory in Albany. The Mother Goose Jazz Band, led by Director/saxophonist Josh Greenberg will be performing with an All Star line up including: Gene Garone – drums, David Gleason – piano, Mike Lawrence – bass, Cathy Olsen – lead vocals and Ken Olsen – trombone. In addition, the group features a multi-talented youth chorus that sings, plays instruments and performs skits. Youth Chorus Members are from Berlin Central Schools and St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls.

The 60 minute show is strikingly original and presents jazzy arrangements of traditional nursery rhymes set to the music of jazz greats Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker and Dave Brubeck. The Mother Goose Jazz Band brings jazz, one of America’s most significant contributions to world culture, to a whole new generation of listeners.
Since 1994, Josh Greenberg, founder, director, and composer of The Mother Goose Jazz Band, has performed with his band in a wide variety of venues including schools, performing arts centers, festivals, libraries, museums and special events. The Mother Goose Jazz Band was awarded “Best Band for Kids and Their Parents” by The Albany Times Union.
