Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Meetings 1939-1942

Transcribed from the minutes of meetings of the first three years of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department are the minutes of the SVFD for meeting #14.
Stephentown, Sept. 10, 1940
Treasurer gave his report.  $117.72 in treasury.  Labor Day float prizes was won 1st. $5.00 and 3rd $2.00, Taconic Valley Grange 2nd $3.00.  Ulysses Sweener donated $5.00 to the fire company, the members gave him a vote of thanks.  There were also donations; Frank Tabby, Bronx, NY $5.00, Wm. Gillies $1.00, Mrs. Vosburg $.50, Ed Quinlan $1.00, Jas. Clarke $1.00, Mrs. Sewell $5.00, Miss Fisher 35 cents.  The secretary to write and thank them for same.  The printing of posters and hall rent was donated by Frederick Brown and Elwin Burdick.
It was decided to run a dance on Halloween night, Oct 31st.  Chief to see about caller, music and hall.  Fr refreshments for Oct Alvin Geerholt-Ulysses Sweener.  All firemen to attend dance in uniform.  Members voted to have a clam steam, Sept 29th at 1:20 PM daylight (sic) savings time. Corp., C.E. Bateman, Elmer Stuart, Horow Bateman, Clarence Chittended, Lewis Shaw, F.F. A., Betty Green, Lyysses Sweener, Ernest McClintock, Berlin Fire Company.
• Suggestions for next year, Eastern Star, Red Cross, Rod and gun club, Joe Mitnight, Dee W. (sic Whitman), Hancock Garage, Lebanon Garage, Mt. Whitney Farm, Sheffield Farm.
