The Board of Trustees of the Grafton Community Library is pleased to announce the establishment of the Lillis Bunce Memorial Award in recognition of Mrs. Bunce’s extraordinary contributions to the Library over a period of half a century. From her involvement in the founding and building of the Library to her twenty-five years’ service as volunteer Library Director, Lillis’ impact on the Library was incalculable.
The purpose of the award is to keep Lillis’s memory alive within the Grafton community, to acknowledge on an annual basis her many contributions to the community and to encourage community service in our younger citizens. The two hundred dollar scholarship will be awarded annually to a local high school junior who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the community by performing community service in any of the following areas: library/literacy, gardening, environmental causes or civic organizations – all areas for which Lillis demonstrated a personal interest and passion and gave generously of her time and talents.
Any Grafton resident who is currently a junior in high school is eligible to apply, including private and home-schooled students. Applications may be obtained at the Library, on the Library’s website (www.graftoncommunitylibrary.org) or at the guidance offices of Berlin or Brittonkill Central Schools. Completed applications may be submitted in person at the Library or by mail to Grafton Community Library, P.O. Box H, Grafton, NY, 12082. The deadline for receiving applications is May 2, 2011.
