Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange met on May 11 with Master David Cornell. The Masonic Dinner Committee gave a report on a successful dinner. The Master thanked everyone. During the meeting the Chaplain reported the death of our sister Barbara Baker. The Grange had a memorial service for her and the family.
After other reports were completed it was time for the Lecturer’s program. Elsie Marpe, Mary Marpe and Louise Slingerland were in charge of the program. Louise had a game of passing the yarn. It was between a team of men and a team of women. The men won, and prizes were awarded. Elsie had a reading on Mother’s Day. She read a proclamation that President Wilson gave on the meaning of Mother’s Day. Mary Marpe read an article on “My Mother’s Geraniums” all pink and red. Elsie told about the uses of mother’s apron – wiping tears and cleaning ears, collecting eggs, vegetables, wood and she dusted with it. She also had some brilliant answers of school children on what mothers were – pretty bossy, always cleaning and had invisible eyes on the back of their heads. Elsie talked about her cherry tree having lots of blossoms but didn’t see any bees to pollinate them. The poem “In Flanders Field” was recited in honor of Memorial Day. The Lecturer thanked the ladies for the program.
She announced that the next meeting is on May 25. The program is at 8 pm and will be on Solar Power. It will also cover financial options and incentives such as tax credits and rebates.  All are welcome to attend. Kendal Baker is in charge of the program. Refreshment Committee is C.F.A. – Committee on Family Activities.
We will have the Chocolate Cake contest. The cake has to be homemade and in an 8 or 9 inch pan, with no frosting. The cake can be a regular cake or diabetic cake.
