Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Meetings 1939-1942

Transcribed from the minutes of meetings of the first three years of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department are the minutes of the SVFD for meeting #19 through #23.
Stephentown, February 11, 1941
The 19th regular meeting of the S. F. Dept. held on the above date.  Letter read from Fireman Asso. Regard[ing] refund of taxes.  Letter filed.  Application rec’d from Eugene Vosburgh, same placed on file.  Treasurer reported $113.50 on hand.  No other business, meeting adjourned. L. Hewitt, Sec’y
There was no meeting of the fire department in March 1941
Stephentown, April 8, 1941
The 20th regular meeting of the S.F. Dept. met in town hall on the above date.  Rec’d $5.10 rebate from insurance co. for policies sold in town for 1940.  Chief Feathers advised he will pay telephone charges on phone in his house instead of fire department.  A new defroster has been purchased for the fire truck. [sic- this is for the 1939 Chevrolet pumper purchased in 1939]
April 20th – members will meet to clean truck and do whatever necessary. Treasurer reported $116.82 on hand.  Walter Sykes will find out the cost of first aid kit and report next meeting.  Motion made and seconded and carried, the fire dept cooperate with defense committees locate at Lebanon.

Stephentown, May 13, 1941
The 21st regular meeting held in town hall on above date.  Chief made his report stating we need a new battery in the truck.  The commissioners will take care of it.  Treasurer reports $118.02.

Stephentown, June 10, 1941
The 22nd regular meeting of the SFD met in town rooms on above date.  Chief reported battery would be taken care of sic[by] commissioners.  Harold Sutherland having missed 3 meetings, he was dropped from the company.  Everett Shepard was next on list.  Arthur Staples will notify him to see if he wishes to act as fireman.  The commissioners granted permission for the fire truck to go to Berlin, July 4th if invited.

Stephentown, 7/8-41   sic [July 8, 1941]
The 23 regular meeting was held in the fire rooms on above date.  The motion was made and seconded and carried that the fire co buy 50 fireman emblems for license plates at the rate of $10 for 50.  It was decided to cut out refreshments, June-July and August & Sept.
