From The Superintendent’s Desk – Good Bye Letter

June 17, 2011 By eastwickpress

The school year is drawing to a close. My time as interim superintendent is growing short. Over the last few weeks there have been Character Education Celebrations, Achievement Awards, Moving Up Ceremonies and our graduates will walk across the stage on June 24. It has been a privilege to be associated with the students of Berlin CSD. They have worked hard and achieved a great deal. They have developed character and good work habits. They are an asset to the community. The parents and all the others who support our school have every right to be proud.
I want to make a request on behalf of the students. Please come together to solve the problems that face this school district. There are two major issues that need the attention and cooperative efforts of all groups. The educational program can be improved. The teachers and staff will need the support and participation of every group in our community. The school buildings need to be renovated in a cost effective method that is affordable for our community. Work on these two issues will be challenging, but it can be done if everybody works to break the cycle of the last five or six years, a cycle where groups attack others, create controversy and villains.
Start a new cycle where the intelligence, experience and dedication of all residents of the District collaborate to solve problems and where differences lead to compromise.
Thank you all for the opportunity to serve Berlin CSD.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brian Howard
BCSD Interim Superintendent
