Hoosick Girls Softball Tournament This Weekend

June 3, 2011 By eastwickpress

submitted by Gary Funck
The Town of Hoosick Youth Baseball/Softball (THYBS) will be holding a 10U (10 years old and under) girls softball tournament the weekend of June 3, 4 and 5. The finals are on Sunday starting at around 3 pm. All teams will be there playing Sunday morning right through early afternoon.
A Big Difference
What is different about our tournament is the philosophy. Where most towns do their league play through the Spring then select their (12) All-Stars to play in All-Star tournaments through the summer, we are offering a “regular league team tournament.” This allows all girls to get to play in a competitive style tournament, not just the selected few All-Stars, girls who would never otherwise get to play in a weekend tournament now get a full weekend of games, fun and competition.
The Town of Hoosick is the first league in this area to offer a tournament like this. We ran a small pilot tournament last year with just two other towns and a total of four teams. A team from Salem, NY, won it, and it was a huge hit with all the girls and coaches, so we have decided to start offering this to other towns. This year we have seven teams playing and two full days of games using the three youth fields in Hoosick Falls. There was interest from neighboring towns, but, due to previous obligations and weather related game make-ups, they couldn’t make it. We hope to double the entries next year.
It is a lot of fun for the girls, especially for the “regular girl” who will probably never be on an All-Star team and play in a tournament.
