Hoosick Softball Tournament Is A Big Hit

June 10, 2011 By eastwickpress

The weather was perfect this past weekend for the Second Annual Youth Softball Tournament held at the fields on Waterworks Road. Games started Friday afternoon and ended Sunday afternoon. Tournament Director and Town of Hoosick Youth Baseball/Softball Board Member Gary Funck said,

“All weekend long you could see smiles on these girl’s faces and that is what it is all about. The goal was to once again offer a tournament to all girls playing in our league and our neighboring leagues. This allowed girls ten and under that might never otherwise get the opportunity to compete in a tournament to do so.” Participating teams included three from Hoosick Falls, two from Salem, one from Cambridge and one from Schuylerville.
Funck said, “Schuylerville came in first. They had a great team with good hitting and good defense. The ‘Defending Champs,’ Salem 2, came in second. They defended their title right up until the championship game. Schuylerville was a little too much for them, but second place was a great accomplishment for these girls.”
In the consolation game the Salem 1 team played against the Hoosick Falls 1 team, sponsored by WCW. “It was a great game. It was tied going into the last inning. Salem came up in the top of the inning and couldn’t score. Hoosick Falls came up in the bottom of the inning and won it with some key hits,” said Funck

After the last games every player received a tournament T-shirt.
Funck said, “I want to extend a huge thanks to all the people that donated their time for the entire weekend to make this tournament a success… also, a special thanks to the companies that donated gifts for our raffle – WCW, Subway, Under Armour, Denim & Deeds and Brown’s Brewery.”
