Memorial Weekend Starts With A Broken Waterline In Hoosick Falls

June 3, 2011 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
Memorial Day weekend got off to a roaring start in Hoosick Falls Friday evening when a waterline at the top of the hill on Carey Avenue burst and sent water, stone and mud surging down into the yard of the Brandon Harrington home and across the street to the pumping station. Village crews and the Hoosick Falls Fire Department arrived between seven and 7:30 to shut off the water and begin repair work.
A gully a few feet deep was torn from the edge of one side of the road. The Village Water and Highway crew dug down to the damaged waterline, cleared dirt away from it, put a repair sleeve on it, turned the water back on and filled the hole. They finished about 1 am.
New Water Line
A new water line is currently being installed in that area as part of the new water treatment plant and waterline improvements being made throughout the Village. The new line is expected to be completed some time next week.
Boil Water Order
The Village was under a boil water order from Friday evening through Monday morning.
