On Saturday, June 4, forty-five volunteers turned out to improve the trails at Grafton Lakes State Park and enjoy a day in the outdoors. The Taconic Hiking Club, Grafton Trail Riders, Capital MTB, Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park members, families and friends worked on six different trails throughout the Park. Downed trees from this year’s many windy storms were cut and cleared from trails; raking and trail marking were completed, and litter was gathered from shorelines.
“We are so thankful to have such enthusiastic volunteers who come out year after year to make the Park beautiful and accessible for everyone,” said Park Naturalist Liz Wagner. “National Trails Day is particularly special because it’s also made possible through the donations of several area businesses that supply food for the volunteer barbecue as well as prize raffle items. It really is a community effort all around!”
The Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park would like to thank the following community businesses that contributed to this year’s National Trails Day event: Brunswick Barbecue and Brew, Tomhannock Bicycles, Edelmann’s Sales, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Price Chopper (Brunswick), Guiseppe’s Restaurant, Dunkin Donuts (Brunswick), Adirondacks Sports & Fitness Magazine and Hannaford.
