According to Berlin Town Clerk records, 183 men enlisted in Berlin during the Civil War. Some of these men were from the surrounding area. Most joined the 125th Infantry. Of the 183 enlistees, at least 26 were killed and 7 wounded. After the war the Berlin veterans formed a chapter of the G. A. R. (Grand Army of the Republic) and another for the Sons of the G.A.R.
