250th Anniversary Of Cambridge Patent

July 15, 2011 By eastwickpress

In honor and in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Cambridge Patent, the towns of White Creek, Cambridge and Jackson, as well as the Village of Cambridge, will hold a day long series of events on Saturday, July 23.  The 1761 Committee and the Cambridge Historical Society and Museum have been working together to organize this celebration with many activities and exhibits planned for the public to enjoy. The Museum will be open at 10  am on that day with special exhibits and tours.
Village and town historians will display memorabilia and will be available for questions. Some churches will be open for tours from 1  to 3 pm, and a list of those churches will be given out at the Museum.  At 10:30 am at the Museum, Ken Gottry will present his slide show and talk in honor of the Cambridge Patent.  He will speak of the land grant of 31,500 acres issued to 61 families which was eventually settled by the original 30 families of Cambridge.  He will trace Cambridge’s 250 year history through photos and stories of the churches, schools, communities and fire departments.  In addition to the slide show, he will display old photos of Cambridge landmarks which you can try to match to current photos.  He asks you to bring your memories and your questions.  Copies of his book and copies of the Cambridge Patent will be on sale.
