Hoosick Falls Community Band Concerts Begin

July 1, 2011 By eastwickpress

The Hoosick Falls Community Band under the direction of Bill Gaillard will begin its summer concert series in Wood Memorial Park on Wednesday, July 6, at 7:30 pm.
Concerts will be held on Wednesday evenings until August 24. In the event of rain, the program for that evening is cancelled. Concerts are played from 7:30 until 9 pm each evening with music from marches, pop tunes, Broadway Show medleys and overtures.
The band originated as the Van Surdam Band in 1873 and has continued as the Hoosick Falls Community Band since 1972. The band is supported through funds from the Town of Hoosick, the Village of Hoosick Falls, the Hoosick Federal Credit Union and the Trusts of Harry Weir and Edith Craig Reynolds. Many of these funds go toward repair of the bandstand, most recently the new stairs and landing. New railings are the next agenda item.
Bill Gaillard was “hired” by Fred Quackenbush (d) in 1965 to lead the then Van Surdam Band, and Bill has continued since then rehearsing the band three times a month during the off concert season.
The Community Band of 58 members presents eight park concerts, a Christmas concert, marches in the Memorial Day Parade and presents musical selections for the Flag Day Recognition at the Legion Post in Hoosick Falls.
Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy fine music and various food selections provided by local groups.
