Joan Linda Huls

July 15, 2011 By eastwickpress

Stephentown – Joan Linda Huls, 68, passed away July 5, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Pittsfield, MA, Joan was the beloved daughter of William F. and Floy M. Hall. She was raised in Stephentown, NY, and attended New Lebanon Central School. Joan was a member of the National Honor Society, graduating in 1959 at the age of 16.
Following graduation from Berkshire Business College in 1960, Joan was employed as a legal secretary in Pittsfield and then in the Publicity Department at Berkshire Downs in Hancock, MA, where she also served as the Track Photographer’s Model. In 1970, after eight years of military travel with her husband, Joan went to work at the Darrow School in New Lebanon, NY, retiring in 2005 after 35 years as the Administrative Assistant to the Head of School.
Joan is survived by her high school sweetheart, husband Harry Arthur Huls, with whom she would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this December. She was the loving and devoted mother of Trevor and wife Debbie Huls of Canandaigua, NY,  Tina Huls and Craig Alldredge of Pittsford, NY, and Tanya Huls and John Nestler of Stephentown. Joan cherished her grandchildren Evan, Ashley, Cassidy and Tanner. She was their “Geema!” Joan is also survived by her loving sister and best friend, Mary Roberts of Amsterdam, NY, and Mary’s daughters, Tracy and Lorri, along with several other nieces and nephews. Joan is pre-deceased by her loving niece, Tara. Joan and Mary loved to spend the entire day shopping and buying “absolutely nothing.”
Joan loved word-association games and was an avid “crossworder,” who usually finished two to three puzzles each day. She also loved card games, especially her pinochle night with Shirley, Flo and Donna for many years.
She loved her grandchildren dearly and always made time to travel to the Rochester/Canandaigua area for their soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball games as well as Evan’s soccer and basketball games in New Lebanon.
Burial will be in the Saratoga National Cemetery in the fall following  private family services.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff in the ICU at St. Mary’s Hospital, Troy, NY. A special thanks to Dr. H, Felicia and Kim who cared for her with compassion and always treated our wife and mother with dignity.
In remembrance of Joan, contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County in care of Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, P.O. Box 9, Stephentown, NY, 12168.
