Betty J. Adams

Grafton – Betty J. Adams, 80, died on Thursday morning, August 18, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Born in Petersburgh, NY, on March 22, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Lena Lackey Miller. She was the wife of the late Walter Adams, who died in 1986, and the late Leon “Red” Schnoop, who died in 1954.
Betty was Salutatorian of the Class of 1949 at Berlin Central High School. She was employed at the Shirt Shop in Petersburgh, collected water bills for the Town of Berlin, NY, worked at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, Tansitor of Bennington, NY, the Falls Diner in Hoosick, NY, the Pownal Tannery in Pownal, VT, and the Grafton Elementary School. She was the assessor’s clerk for both the Towns of Grafton, NY, and Petersburgh, worked on the Election Board for the Town of Grafton and was very active in the Democratic party. Betty retired to Wildwood, FL, in 1995 moving back to Grafton in 2000. She enjoyed gardening and was very musically inclined.
Survivors include her children, Susan Schnoop Rathbun of Saratoga, NY, Daniel and wife Anne Schnoop of Petersburgh, Randy and wife Elaine Schnoop of Pownal, Alan and wife Gloria Adams of Berlin, Rebecca Adams Doughty of Grafton, and thirteen grandchildren, Scot, Crystal, Nicole, Betty, Darren, Kevin, Kira, Kasa, Holly, Nathan, Cara, Colleen and Corey, along with many great-grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her son, John and his wife Cynthia Schnoop of Inverness, FL, and a brother, William Miller of Grafton.
After cremation, visitation was held in the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, with Memorial Services officiated by Pastor Steve Kuiper of the Heritage Baptist Church of Cohoes, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity close to your heart in memory of Betty.
