Mary Ellen Thurber

Hoosick Falls – Mary Ellen Thurber, 55, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at the Kindred Hospital in Springfield, MA. She had resided on Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Born on March 1, 1956, in Bennington, VT, Mary Ellen was the daughter of the late Edward and Kathryn (Tilton) Thurber. She attended St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls and Hoosick Falls High School. Mary Ellen served on the Rensselaer County C.E.O. Board and was Chairperson of the Rensselaer County Head Start program. She also volunteered at the Hoosick Area Senior Center and was a past member of the Society of St. Stanislaw and the Eagles Aerie # 2467, both in Hoosick Falls.
With regrets, she leaves behind her son, James Thurber, her sister Theresa Thurber and companion Rich Bennett, all of Hoosick Falls, and her brother, Harold “Tommy” Thurber of Bennington. Mary Ellen also leaves many uncles, aunts and cousins. Anyone who knew her, knew her love for Tigger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, August 6, at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will be private.
Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls on Friday from 5 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Hoosick Falls Fire Department or the Hoosick Falls Police Department through the funeral home.
