Nellie L. DeMars

Hoosick Falls – Nellie L. DeMars, 79, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. Formerly she had resided at the Wood Park Apartments and on River Street, both in Hoosick Falls, NY, with her husband Thomas DeMars.
Born on September 12, 1931, in Stephentown, NY, Nellie was the daughter of the late Bill and Maude (Livingston) Lackey Sr. She attended school in Stephentown and was employed at the former Snow White Laundry in Hoosick Falls. Nellie enjoyed playing bingo, doing jigsaw puzzles and the time she spent with family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Berlin First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Tom, two daughters, Mary Betit and husband Kevin of Shaftsbury, VT, and Martha Coon and husband Carlton of Hoosick Falls, a sister, Maude Thurber of Hoosick Falls, one of the two boys she helped to raise, Butch Baker, and two sisters-in-law, Leona Campbell of Ballston Spa, NY, and Dot Lackey of Hoosick Falls. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Brad and Elicia Betit, Tami Duket and Mike Coon, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Nellie is pre-deceased by a brother, eight sisters and the other of two boys she helped to raise, Larry Baker.
Funeral services are Friday at 10 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial follows at the Berlin Baptist Cemetery in Berlin, NY. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9 am until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at the Hoosick Falls Health Center through the funeral home.
