Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Meetings 1939-1942

Transcribed from the minutes of meetings of the first three years of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department are the minutes of the SVFD for meeting #28 through meeting #40 in December of 1942.
Stephentown, 1941 [no specific date specified]
[The] 28[th] regular meeting of S. F. Dept.
Chief – no report
Report of comm.[committee]  Mike Ward reported that $33 was made at dance.
Unfinished business  – R. Carpenter made motion, second by U. Sweener that sec[secretary] cast one ballot in favor of S. Hick, D. Feathers, F. Overlock, W. Sykes.
A vote for treasurer – M. Ward 10, H. Pease 4, E. Geerholt 2.  M. Ward elected Treasurer.
New business- none
Good of order   F. Overlock wanted D. Green to come at next meeting.
Treasurer’s report $171.38
Sy Hicks asked for adjournment.

The 29th regular meeting of the S. F. Dept. held in town hall, Jan 13, 1942.
Chief Report – [nothing described]
S. L. Hewitt made motion to lay the communication on the table.  Second by F. Overlock.
Gus Johnson read a letter he secured from Mr. Bland.  G. Johnson made the motion to ask all auxiliary firemen to [come to] our next regular meeting.  Second by D. Feathers, all in favor.
S. L. Hewitt made motion to furnish the money to notify the auxiliary firemen. Second by F. Overlock.
[The following was crossed out of the meeting minutes] D. Feathers made motion for fines, missing fire $.10 cents, missing meeting $.20 cents
New business – none

Meeting closed.  Treasurer report $173.88

The 30th regular meeting of the S. Fire Dept. held in town hall Feb  10, 1942.
Gus Johnson made motion to buy Defense Bonds $75. Second by R. Tyde.

The 31st regular meeting of the Stephentown Fire Dept.   Treasurers report: Received $10.49. Insurance premiums $3.65 for lunch.  Report on committees – none.  Motion made by L. Hewitt to buy one $1 dollar bond.  Seconded by A. Carpenter.
The following members intend to take the carried course in first aid.  L. Hewitt, D. Feathers, A. Geerholt, B. Hale, S. Hicks, C. Carpenter, M. Ward.
All firemen are to report to fire house during black out.  L. Hewitt made the motion for adjournment, seconded by S. Hicks.

Chief report, none.  S. Hicks made motion to have every fireman instructed to operate the fire truck and pump.  W. Sykes is going to show each fireman how to operate the pump at 7 oclock Apr 16, every Thursday nite for 4 weeks.
Art Staples made motion for adjournment, U. Sweener seconded.

The 40th regular meeting of the Stephentown Fire Dept.
Good of Order    L. Hewitt made motion to add J. Vosburg and Art Pease to the fire dept.  Notify Art Pease about the two new members about Ins.  L. Hewitt made motion for new Secy. To buy a new cloth bound book.  Seconded by H. Sweener.
Motion for adj. by L. Hewitt.  Seconded by H. Sweener.   D. Hall   Secy.
A random page was behind the Dec. meeting:
1 call to Moran Hotel.  Mar    A. Geerholt & M. Ward.   S. Hicks spoke in regards to first chief.
Good of order.  H. Pease made motion seconded by R. Tyde that we continue meeting of firemen subject to order.
Treasurer’s report  $119.95, add .60 total $120.55
