Third Annual Hoosick Punkin’ Chunkin’ Competition

August 19, 2011 By eastwickpress

The Third Annual Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza is a little over a month away and teams are already preparing for the exciting Punkin’ Chunkin’ competition. Last year five teams participated and the competition was intense. The crowd loved the spectacle and cheered wildly when the event was won on the final shot. Organizers are hoping the excitement was contagious and even more teams join the fun this year.

The goal of the punkin’ chunkin’ is to create a non-motorized machine to launch pumpkins at targets from 100 to 250 feet away. Each team has three shots to hit the targets – including a moving target that earns a bonus. Points are earned for distance and accuracy. The winning team receives the Golden Pumpkin Award, as well as a check for $250. The competition is open to all – families, businesses, organizations and groups of friends.
Registration information and competition rules are available online at www.hoosickyouth.org.
The Punkin’ Chunkin’ is part of the Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza, set for September 23-25 in the Village of Hoosick Falls. The chunkin’ will be held on Saturday, September 24, at the Town of Hoosick Athletic Fields. Check-in begins at 8 am, and teams must be ready for a safety inspection at 9 am. The competition begins at 9:30 am. The public is invited to come and watch the excitement.
Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza is a pride and tradition initiative organized by the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3). Local sponsors and community members work together to make the event a success each year. To be part of this community-building event, contact Aelish or Beth at 518-686-9050 or visit www.hoosickyouth.org.
