The Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad gives the Paul Timmerman EMS Award each year to a graduating senior of Hoosick Falls Central School who demonstrates good community service and is a good role model for classmates. Paul was an active member of the Rescue Squad whose life ended suddenly in a vehicle accident. This year’s recipient is Brett Henry Hanselman.
Brett joined the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad in February of 2009 as a Junior Member. He joined the Rescue Squad to help others and to gain knowledge in the medical field. He rode on team 4 under team co-captains John
May and Ron Sampath. The driver for the team is Brett’s mother, Carol. Brett’s father, David, was a local dispatcher for the Town of Hoosick and his grandmother, Georgianna Parker, is a member of the THRS. Volunteering comes naturally to Brett’s family. “We’re just normal people volunteering our time to help others in need,” said Brett.
Brett enjoys soccer and theater. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Youth Ministry. Brett will continue his education at LaGrange College in Georgia, leaving in late August. He plans to study Theater and Pre-Med.
Although Brett will be missed by all members of the squad, members wish him the best at college. Brett encourages others to volunteer their time and service the community. Brett remarked, “Pursue your dreams because you never know what could happen.”
